Inspiration

This is from a few years ago, but I liked when I re-read it again, so I'm sharing it with you. It was inspired by Sue, a songwriter friend of mine who's sensitivity to her subject leaves me in awe of her talent.

She waits in the wings, breath held sharply,
Her soul bared by flamboyant gestures and courageous riffs.
Pained expression.
Panicked eyes.
Fear and stillness, frozen quiet in the darkness.
That's not my soul being bared. Impatiently she shifts.
Sorrowed suppression.
Butterflies.
Suddenly the tempo changes, echoes on echoes.
Sharp waves of her soul's cries dart from the guitar strings.
The violin whimpers her fears.
Hands clenched.
Eyes wide.
The piano enters softly with a subtle beat, tapping toes.
Soaring rhythms and husky voices reminding her soul to sing.
Quietly drying her tears.
Face drenched.
Smiling widely.
Validation.
Understanding.
Empathy.
